Huff sets another personal best

Seattle WA, May 7thth, 2003

The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway played host to the AHDRA SCREAMIN' EAGLE PERFORMANCE PARTS LAS VEGAS SPRING NATIONALS May 2nd-4th and another record breaking field made the trip from around the nation. Huff and his team went to Vegas to improve on the personal best they had set just three weeks before in Phoenix AZ and they were successful. The weather was not too favorable during Saturdays qualifying but the rain held off and the wind didn’t seem to have too much impact on the Top Fuel bikes. After round two of qualifying Huff was still in the bottom half of the top 16 qualifiers and hoping to step it up in round three and improve. At the end of the day and facing their final chance in round three the team did what they wanted. Huff not only moved way up on the ladder but ran another person best, a 6.87 at over 206 MPH! That pass moved the team up to the number six spot and the team would try to get ready for battle on Sunday.

“It sure is great to get this program moving so soon in the season. I think this team has really started to work together and it shows. My confidence on the bike has come around and we will keep improving and start making rounds soon” said Huff. Making rounds is the one thing that has eluded the team this year. Consistency is what pays off and in today’s level of competition teams need to win rounds to stay in the points chase. “We hurt some parts on Saturday and when we went out for round one on Sunday the bike was barely running on the rear cylinder. Only running a 7.1 at 202 isn’t going to win many rounds this year and we proved that on Sunday” added Huff.

The team is now sitting in 4th place in the Western Division and 9th place nationally. Huff will likely be out of the top 10 nationally for the first time in his Top Fuel career next week as the team is unable to make the next two races in Ohio and Georgia. The team will pull together all of it’s resources and try to make a Canadian race the weekend of May 31st Mission B.C. but they are not making any promises. “We may not make Mission, but that’s because we have to be ready for Denver in mid June. The faster we go the more money it costs and this team is still looking for a primary sponsor. Our goal is to make all of the Western AHDRA races and see if we can do a couple of Eastern ones to help with our national standing. This lack of a budget really is taking its toll but we have what it takes to get that marketing partner and that’s what we’re working on” said Huff about the future. The team is currently looking for a primary marketing partner and extends all of their appreciation to their list of quality associate sponsors. It is so competitive in the world of Top Fuel, the necessary funding for competitive teams is growing every year and with the economy seemingly starting to make a turn for the better the Huff Motorsports Top Fuel Harley Team is remaining optimistic that more sponsors will begin to take advantage of the tremendous marketing value offered with their team and the exposure they are receiving this year.
