Denver Results

One of the toughest fields of the season gathered this weekend in Denver, Colorado, for the 3rd Western Division AHDRA race of the year. Bandimere Speedway, which is one of the toughest race settings in America, taxed the riders again this weekend. The high altitude, heat and smoke from the horrific Colorado forest fires proved to be demanding ingredients as the 16 finalist in the Top Fuel AHDRA division began racing Sunday morning. Steve Huff came into the race 5th in Western Division Points, and after Sunday’s preliminary results he had moved up to 3rd place., just behind Dave O’Hara and Ron Houniet. O’Hara won the event with Ron Houniet finishing a close 2nd. Huff qualified 6th out of the 16 bike field that made the cut for the race on Sunday. He was just .4 seconds off the top qualifying time set by Dave O’Hara. In elimination round one, Steve Huff was able to defeat Jack Romine in a fairly easy round. In elimination round two the high altitude and the bikes fuel set-up was just not good enough to get around Joe Timmons.

"This is a very demanding race track. With the tricky air and the tricky track you have to really have your bike set-up for the conditions, and unfortunately we were just a bit off this weekend. We qualified well and we appeared to have the bike setup the way we wanted. Later in the day on Sunday we could see we were getting too much fuel at the start, which cost us in the end. The bike was running over 190 mph it just wasn’t launching off the line quick enough." Said Huff

"We also just didn’t have the best lane draws on Sunday. The left lane proved to be just a little slower and trickier for the riders. The winners later in the day immerged from the right lane. This track is arguably one of the toughest for us, with some pretty confusing track conditions. You could see that experience paid off for O’Hara and Houniet, not only in the way they had their bikes set up for the altitude, but also because they knew this track better than most of us, as evidenced by their 1st and 2nd place finishes. Since this is our first full year in Top Fuel, I am happy with how much our team is learning and how quickly we are improving." Said Huff. "I want to again thank Gabe Larkins and Hot Rod City Customs, as well as the Travelodge Denver West for their generous support. We couldn’t have come here without them." He added.
